Step 12

Step 12 and beyond

Whilst you can run a Step 12 session the same way as a usual Step session, we have found you can adapt the session slightly to celebrate the journey participants have been on. You can also use the session to collect testimonies which can then be used (anonymously) for future STEPS courses in your setting.

You could run a Step 12 session as follows:

5 mins

Welcome and housekeeping

20 mins

Step 12 Film (if watching it during the Session. It could alternatively be watched in advance)

10 mins

Evaluation Forms (give people a chance to complete this online, whilst playing some music).

30 mins

Group Session (using shortened version of the Guidelines – Appendix 11)

10 mins

Next Steps (explain ways of sharing your story and inviting people on this journey - see End of Course email in Step 12 of the Materials and Slides at Appendix 15)

15 mins

End in Groups sharing how people will stay in their process

End

Sharing your story

As you will see from the template email to send after Step 12, we would advise you to encourage participants to write and share their story with you. In our experience this not only helps participants consolidate their STEPS experience, but also enables these stories to be shared (on an anonymised basis) to encourage others in their STEPS journey. Please do also share these with us at STEPS so that we can share them more widely (anonymised).

A simple way to think about writing their STEPS story is by responding to the following questions (you could also use these questions when interviewing people):

  1. Why did you choose to go on the course? (What were you dealing with, how did it affect you and your relationships?)
  2. How was it to work through the process? (What was revealing, helpful, challenging etc?)
  3. How have you benefited from going through the process? (Do you see change in your behaviour or your emotional response or in your way of relating to yourself, God and others?)

Top Tip

As we have found, it is the power of the STEPS stories themselves which people find most helpful in their decision to try STEPS, and by having this opportunity to obtain interviews, written stories and testimonies, you will find these helpful when planning and advertising future courses.

Evaluation form

Please see the online Evaluation Form – Appendix 12, that you use at Step 12. To ensure your course is included in this form, please make sure you have registered your course with STEPS in good time (preferably before any course starts, so we can provide support throughout your journey). As a STEPS Team we will collate the feedback and send you an anonymised document with all the feedback (in accordance with GDPR).
