Step 12
Step 12 and beyond
While you can run a Step 12 session the same way as a usual Step session, we have found you can adapt the session slightly to celebrate the journey participants have been on. This will also help collect testimonies which can then be used (anonymously) for future STEPS courses in your setting.
You could run an online Step 12 session as follows:
5 mins | Welcome and housekeeping |
20 mins | Step 12 Film (if watching during the session – it could also be watched in advance) |
10 mins | Evaluation forms (give people a chance to complete this online, whilst playing some music. You can circulate the link in the chat). |
30 mins | Group Session in breakout rooms (using shortened version of the Guidelines in Appendix 11) sharing their STEPS stories and any other reflections from Step 12 |
10 mins | Next Steps (explain ways of sharing your story and inviting people on this journey - see end of course email for Step 12 in Materials and Slides showing how to stay in the process at Appendix 15). |
15 mins | End in Groups sharing how people will stay in their process |
End |
Sharing your story
As you will see from the template email to send after Step 12, we would advise facilitators to encourage participants to write and share their story with you. In our experience this not only helps participants consolidate their STEPS experience, but also enables these stories to be shared (on an anonymised basis) to encourage others in their STEPS journey. Please do also share these with us at STEPS so that we can share them more widely (on an anonymous basis).
A simple way to think about writing their STEPS story is by responding to the following questions (you could also use these questions when interviewing people):
- Why did you choose to go on the course? (What were you dealing with, and how did it affect you and your relationships?)
- How was it to work through the process? (What was revealing, helpful, challenging, etc?)
- How have you benefited from going through the process? (Do you see changes in your behaviour or your emotional responses, or in your way of relating to yourself, God and others?)
Top Tip
As we have found, it is the power of the STEPS stories themselves which people find most helpful in their decision to try STEPS, and by having this opportunity to obtain interviews, written stories and testimonies, you will find these helpful when planning and advertising future courses.
Evaluation form
Please see this link to the Online Evaluation Form you can use. To share the form with participants, copy and paste the URL. To ensure your course is included in this form, please make sure you have registered your course with STEPS first.
As a STEPS Team we will collate the feedback and send you an anonymised document with all the feedback (in accordance with GDPR).
