How it works

STEPS is based on the well-proven principles of the 12 steps that originate from AA groups.

The course starts with an Introduction Session, where you’ll have the opportunity to talk to a facilitator one-on-one about which behaviour or thought pattern you’d like to work on. You then work on this area for the whole 12 steps.

The tools

Through our course book, films, and weekly group, we guide people through the 12 step process.

The book allows you to reflect on your progress during the week, and the group is where you can share out loud about what’s going on internally.

The course book is the main tool for going through the STEPS process.

Written by founder Lars Due-Christensen, the course book guides you through each Step. Each chapter includes Lars’ own reflections on the Step, guided reflections and exercises, and space to write your own thoughts. There is a hard back version and a Digital version available. The digital version also includes an audio version of the course materials.

STEPS online

We have found that STEPS works just as well in an online setting as it does in-person.

One of the benefits of the online experience is that many more people are able to attend online from the comfort of their homes, who might not otherwise come to STEPS. Courses can be started up quickly with minimal resources, and guests are more likely to keep returning for the weekly session.

Here’s what Louisa had to say about facilitating her group online:

The group felt so easy to run, all I needed to do for the sessions was download the video, send out a zoom link, and have the book in front of me to read from. Having a STEPS Coach available made me feel really supported. What was great about this course was that I didn’t need to have all the answers; we went on this journey together. Facilitating the group blessed me more than I could ever have imagined – their openness, courage and vulnerability inspired me to keep pressing on in my own personal journey.” – Louisa
